Casino Claims Dismissed

The National Rugby League has scotched claims of a cover up over allegations a Brisbane Broncos player was caught urinating in a Brisbane casino last Sunday.

Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen said the player in question had denied the claims and added that there had been no complaint received from the casino.

Although a newspaper report stated that the incident was caught on the Treasury Casino's security camera, Queensland Rugby League's Ross Livermore said that casino staff had told him that no footage existed.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett's brother is head of security at the casino, however NRL chief David Gallop said that this was not relevant.

"I wouldn't think that that would be worth inquiring into. You know, I'm very comfortable that the QRL and Broncos are taking it seriously," he told ABC Sport. Gallop said that both the Broncos and the QRL gave him assurances that there was no evidence to support the allegations. "It's difficult to take it any further at this stage. Obviously if more information came to light we'd look at it," he said. The casino's management has refused to make any comment over the newspaper report.
